Grok Bot went live with outbound calls on November 3, 2026

On November 3, 2026, Elon Musk announced on X: "Try asking Grok @Bot to make calls!" — confirming that the AI agent can now place outbound phone calls on behalf of users, according to Teslarati ↗. The feature is available to X Subscription Premium tier users ($30/month and up) in the United States, calling US numbers only at launch.

Teslarati reported that Musk had teased the capability on October 25, stating that Grok Bot would be able to "call someone or a business for you, make a request on your behalf, take notes… summarizing."

According to Teslarati and the official Grok account on X ↗, the bot:

  • Dials the requested number and navigates phone menus, hold queues, and transfers

  • Shows a live transcript of the conversation

  • Can pause mid-call for user input if needed

  • Identifies itself as a virtual assistant

  • Notes that calls may be recorded

  • Prohibits marketing, mass calling, and impersonation

User-reported demos compiled by Teslarati include:

  • Comcast negotiation: Peter Yang's bot reportedly negotiated a retention offer from ~$84/month down to ~$45/month, approximately $500/year in savings. (Attribute to Peter Yang via Teslarati; not independently verified.)

  • Verizon gift card recovery: a user directed the bot to retrieve a promotional gift card that had not arrived.

  • Pediatric appointment: a parent asked the bot to schedule a pediatrician visit.

Teslarati also noted that some customer service representatives refuse to continue the call once they identify the caller as AI.

What users are saying on X

US-only launch note:

"Grok Bot can now make phone calls. For now calling only works for US users and only to US numbers. Looking forward to the Europe release."

— @testerlabor ↗

Outbound-only limitation:

"Just FYI that @Grok @Bot can now natively make outbound phone calls when prompted to. Grok Bot can't accept inbound phone calls yet..."

— @seanfenlon ↗

Official capability summary:

"Grok Bot is an xAI AI agent/teammate that can now place real phone calls for you. Tell it who to call and what you need; it dials, handles menus/hold/transfers, shows a live transcript, pauses for your input if required, then sends a summary. Currently limited to eligible US"

— @grok ↗ (official Grok account)

Our take: who should care

US X Premium+ users who hate hold queues: if you pay $30/month or more for X Subscription and spend time on billing disputes, appointment scheduling, or retention negotiations, Grok Bot offloads the hold time. The live transcript and mid-call pause mean you can supervise escalations without sitting through elevator music.

Caveats before you test it:

  • Usage pool / weekly limits unclear: xAI has not published concurrent-call limits, weekly minute caps, or overage pricing. Long hold calls may burn through quota faster than short requests.

  • Some humans hang up on disclosed AI: Teslarati flagged instances where reps disconnect once they realize the caller is a bot. Plan for partial success.

  • Outbound only: Grok Bot cannot receive inbound calls yet. Do not ask businesses to "call you back" via the bot.

  • US-only at launch: non-US users are waiting for regional rollout. No timeline published.

Compared with other agent products: Perplexity Teammates, Claude Code, and Kimi Hosted Agents do not place phone calls. This is a voice-agent capability, not a coding or research assistant. If you need an agent to call your cable company, Grok Bot is the only chatbot-integrated option we have seen ship publicly at this scale. Voice-AI platforms like Bland.ai and Air.ai target enterprise call-center automation, not consumer assistants.

AdSense-safe note: we are documenting what xAI shipped and the reported user experiences — not recommending X Subscription Premium upsells. The $30/month tier includes other features beyond phone calling.
